2008-2011 Champion: Viscount Shawn Smith the Leopard

Chateau was formed in February 2002 and at  the time was exclusively populated by non-combatants. Concerned for the safety of the house, a Champion was selected by the head of house to defend the honor of the women, artists and defenseless of the Chateau. An alliance was struck with a local noble, Viscount Gaius Marcellus Liberius Auklandus, KSCA, OL, OP. He took up this banner with great dignity and prowess, but alas our beloved Bear of the West passed away October 22, 2007. Our hearts are broken and we are unprotected. Requisat en Pace, beloved prince.

After a period of mourning, it has been determined that each year in the autumn, in honor to Viscount Gaius, a tournament will be held to determine from those seen fit, who shall defend the honor of the Chateau Flammel. May his spirit preside over these contests and guide the hand of fate in finding a worthy victor.

Invocation of the Championship:
Gentlemen, today you are fighting to become the Champion of Chateau Flammel. This is a place of highest Honor for us and one of you will be filling very large shoes. Our previous champion, Viscount Gaius Marcellus Liberius Auklandus was a quadruple Peer and a pillar of our Society. He was made our champion for life, but alas, we discovered that his life would not outlast our need of his care. We lost our beloved friend in October of last year when his great heart ceased to beat and he went to his rest. And so, it was clear to us that we should have a new champion each year that this should not burden one too long. Through a tournament will we seek one tested by a physical trial to find not only the finest warrior, but as well to test his mettle, and assure us that we shall never have our blesssed champion die at his post again lest our hearts, bound to his, follow him. My thanks to you all for your willingness to serve. We are touched by your presence today. For our part we wish you all great victories.

Chateau Flammel Champion Induction:

In the place before and outside of time dwells the coal black smith at the heart of all that is. There does the mighty Tubal Caine hammer out the souls of men from thieves to kings. And in the Seven Sacred Waters does he quench and temper that unbridled fire of creation. The Flame of his forge is Anabraxas, the primordial serpent of creation and rebirth that is the seal of our house and order: the eternal Ourorobos, the tail-devourer, who consumes and recreates itself endlessly. The great dragon is the embodiment of inspiration, divine purification and eternity.

We, House Flammel, are keepers of Anabraxas' fame. The ancient alchemists of the east knew that in the transmutation of the base material and the refinement of the spirit, can create gold and receive divine knowledge. And in so refining ourselves, we seek a return to our original perfection through that purifying fire.

Nicholas Flammel, in whose name we gather, learned the secret of the great forge in 1488. And so in joining the two primal forces of the "Red Elixir", that quintessential flame and the "White Elixir" the waters of life, he created the stone of immortality and disappeared into legend. And so those of Chateau Flammel gather to create the gold of a purified Spirit and keep the spark of Inspiration's Fire alive in the bosom of each heart we touch and in each mind we teach. We seek to bring forth the light in the void from where it resides in every man.

But, we are an Order of peace in a dangerous world, and so it was ordained that we should name a Champion. This day our Champion has arisen from the Forge of combat. In him we place our faith and the right to strike with brimstone wrath in our name and defense. Take now this symbol of our favor, our Right Hand [give right hand gauntlet] and with it meet out just returns. As well, we entrust you with this ring [give wave ring] inscribed with the symbol of the Seven Sacred Waters of Faith, Hope, Love, Justice, Prudence, Fortitude and Temperance. Their peace is yours to preserve and temper your mind and revitalize your soul as you serve as our defender. And so it is that for the coming year, this flame passes to you . We name you, Viscount Shawn Sterling the Leopard, Flammel Draconis.
